ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR I/II
(Source Control Inspector I/II)


Salary:
 I: G-60, $4,694 - $5,681 per month; II: G-65, $5,284- $6,405 per month

The Position:
This position will perform inspection, sampling, investigations, and other work related to enforcing local, state, and federal standards for wastewater discharge to the District’s facilities and for the Contra Costa Clean Water Inspection Program; and provide technical assistance to customers and public agencies. This position is funded by the Contra Costa Clean Water Program. Although it is anticipated that funding will be ongoing, in the event funding is discontinued, this position will be eliminated and employment will be terminated.

Recruitment Standards:
Qualifications for this position include experience and education that could provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:One year of experience as a source control inspector or in a related field. One year of related college level coursework may be substituted for experience.

Education:Equivalent to the completion of two years of college, including satisfactory completion of college level organic and inorganic chemistry. Satisfactory completion of two college level hazardous materials technology courses may be substituted for the organic chemistry course.

Licenses and Certificates: Must possess a valid California Driver’s License. Level I: a CWEA Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector Certificate and the Sacramento State Pretreatment Facility Inspector Certificate must be obtained within two years of appointment and a Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Certificate within one year of District employment.

Special Physical Requirement: Must be able to wear respiratory protection. May be required to enter confined space. Must be able to wear S.C.B.A. and perform job duties in protective clothing and equipment including S.C.B.A. weighing 32 pounds.


Selection Procedure:

A screening committee will evaluate the qualifications of each candidate who has met the minimum requirements for this position. Applicants will receive written notification regarding the results of the review process.

Successful candidates not currently employed in regular status by the District must pass a drug screen as part of a pre-employment physical to be considered for appointment.

About Central San

The Central Contra Costa Sanitary District is headquartered 30 miles east of San Francisco in Contra Costa County. We serve eleven thriving communities, which together comprise a major regional industrial, commercial, and residential center in the Bay Area.

"Central San" is a progressive sanitary district providing wastewater collection and treatment services to approximately 440,000 people in the central Contra Costa area. Benefits Include:

Insurance: All three-quarter to full-time General employees enjoy fully paid benefits for medical (a choice of three plans, all including vision and chiropractic), dental, life, and long-term disability insurances. Employees entitled to dual medical coverage may receive an additional $155 in cash earnings per month in lieu of a second coverage.

Retirement: District employees are members of the Contra Costa County Employees' Retirement System (2% @ 55) with reciprocity to PERS. In addition to the employer contribution, the District pays the employee's basic contribution.

Leaves: The District offers liberal vacation and sick leave benefits as well as 13 paid holidays plus one birthday holiday per year. Part-time employees' leave benefits are prorated.

Deferred Compensation: The District does not participate in the Social Security System except for a mandatory Medicare contribution. Instead, the District contributes to a 401(a) Money Purchase plan an amount equivalent to the employer portion of contributions to the Social Security System (currently 6.2%) in addition to salary. The District also offers employees an optional Deferred Compensation 457 plan with a choice of three plans and savings and investment options.

Cafeteria Plan: General employees are allowed $100 each month toward the selection of additional benefits. Part-time employees' benefit is prorated

Other Benefits: Other benefits enjoyed by District employees include overtime, employee assistance programs, a tuition reimbursement plan, longevity compensation, a registration differential, a sick leave incentive program, retiree benefits, credit union privileges through the Contra Costa Federal Credit Union, a worldwide travel assistance plan, and a comprehensive wellness program including an on-site gym facility.
