Permit Counter Operations

Central San’s Permit Counter Staff want to thank the public for their patience during the past two years of COVID. It is a hopeful sign that we are beginning to return to normal operations again. Please review the following information regarding virtual services, plan review drop off/pick-up and appointment scheduling prior to visiting the permit counter. 

Virtual Services

The following will continue to be served virtually by emailing permits@centralsan.org:

  • Sewer repair permit issuance
  • Construction permit issuance
  • Public mainline plan review submittals
  • Pay fees electronically through PayPal
  • Requests for Information

Plan Review Drop-off/Pick-Up

If you do not need to speak to staff prior to submitting your plans for review, you may pick-up/drop-off documents or application packages without an appointment in the lobby. If fees are due, staff will reach out for payment through PayPal invoicing after submittal. Central San is unable to process plan reviews at the time of submittal; all submittals go through the same standard review process. Plan review is currently taking a minimum of 20 business days. Expedited plan review services are not available. 

In-Person Services (by Appointment Only)

Central San is resuming face-to-face interactions, by appointment, with residents and customers at the Permit Counter beginning Monday, March 28th, for the following types of services:  

  1. Request for Information – about permitting process or to get sewer permit history
  2. Pay fees by check or credit card
  3. Sewer repair permit issuance
  4. Submit an application package* with completeness check for: 
    1. Sewer permits
    2. Encroachment Verification Plan Review
    3. Residential Project Plan Review
    4. Commercial Project Plan Review
    5. Sewer Mainline Extension Plan Review/Permits

*All submittals go through the same standard review process, regardless of whether the plans are submitted during an appointment or dropped off. Submitting during an appointment does NOT constitute an expedited review.

Please arrive on time for your appointment. Arrivals later than five minutes from the scheduled appointment time are subject to cancellation.

Customers with appointments have priority. Walk-in customers may have to wait for the next available appointment, cancellation, or no show. Permit staff will try to accommodate all customers, but walk-ins may experience long waits or be scheduled for an alternate day. All unvaccinated persons entering the building must wear a mask.
