In 2017 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) promulgated new regulations, 40 CFR Part 441 (click link), that apply to any dental practice that places or removes amalgam and discharges to a Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW).  Under these regulations, all dental practices, regardless of whether or not they place or remove amalgam, are required to submit a one-time Dental Facility Compliance Report. If your practice places or removes amalgam, Central San will issue your practice a no fee permit that will help you comply with these new federal standards while meeting Central San’s local amalgam separator requirements. The following information is designed to give dental practices the tools they need to comply with wastewater regulations.
